Recorded on June 30, 2026 at ASM Studios in Istanbul. "Gülleri Elinde" is a piece from the first album, released in 2021. When I found out Didem and I would both be in Istanbul in June, I said let's record two pieces — and with no rehearsal at all, we met at the studio to record. First we hugged, then we sat facing each other, smiling, and played. The reason I chose this piece was that I felt it would sound beautiful with the kanun. I feel the piece has found its most beautiful form yet. In this recording, you'll hear not just the melody as it is on the album, but also the wide-open improvised space we played into, following how we felt on the day of recording. MERT PEKDURANER performing live at the Roode Bioscoop in Amsterdam as part of the 8th edition of the Roode Bioscoop X Amarte Sessions. Recorded live on October 20th 2024. MERT PEKDURANER Mert Pekduraner, a composer and guitarist, born and based in Amsterdam began his musical journey in Adana, Turkey. His time in Adana exposed him to the authentic and traditional sounds of Anatolia, which greatly influenced his composition ideas and arrangement techniques. This situation led to the integration of a fretless guitar alongside the standard guitar in his music, enriching his compositional approach with a broader perspective through the use of maqam sounds. In 2020, Pekduraner introduced his music with "Kıyı (Venice Biennale Main Theme)," commissioned for the 17th Venice Biennale. In 2021 album "Geriye Ne Kaldi?" and its follow-up, "DIALOGUES IN THE DARK," helped him establish a growing audience in Europe and Turkey. Since then, Pekduraner performed at festivals like the 33rd Akbank Jazz Festival, Nilüfer Jazz Festival, Kas Jazz Festival sharing stages with artists like Mammal Hands, Rembrandt Trio, Erkan Ogur, Tord Gustavsen Trio. He continues to perform across Europe, including at venues such as Borusan Music House, Jazzcafe Dizzy, Amsterdam Bethlehemkerk, Lab1 Eindhoven, Zemin Berlin. At Cappadox 2024, I performed a variation of ‘Gülleri Elinde’ from my debut album, taking the 4-minute piece and transforming it into a 9-minute journey, one that was also new to me. https://www.mertpekduraner.com Video by Orçun Karamustafa Recorded, Mixed, Mastered by Deniz Perhan Lighting Design by Mustafa Karakoyun Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/6UQebgGoXLQEsHps47WDbT?si=PAoUb3s0QuWZ8Dan30TTow
